This sampler is my latest design I especially created to celebrate the foundation of the Beuerberg monastery in southern Bavaria 900 years ago. As part of the anniversary exhibition this sampler focuses on different aspects of monasterial life as an inspiration for our modern lives.
The sampler is divided in two parts: in the upper section religious aspects are reflected, in the lower part the communitarian life is addressed.
All motifs are historic and can be found on traditional samplers dating back to the late 17th century.
The quote "Setze der Liebe keine Schranken" (engl. Don’t put limits to love) in the centre of the lower part goes back to Franz von Sales, the cofounder of the Salesian women’s order to which the Beuerberg monastery belonged from 1835 to 2014. The original is stitched with Soie d´Alger from Au Ver a Soie.
